Here we answer some of the most common questions about info product creation.
Q. Do I need an original or unique idea?
No. The truth is the great majority of successful products (both information and physical) are not the first of their kind. Original products mostly never make money. Money is usually made when others take the idea, improve it a little and market it well.
Having a truly unique idea usually means you are taking on extra risk in your business.
What is useful to have is something called a ‘Unique Sales Proposition’ (USP). This just means something that differentiates you from your competitors. The good news is a USP is very easy to find for information products.
You can be different from your competitors in all kinds of ways – price, length, style, bonuses are just some examples.
The bottom line is you don’t need to start with a unique idea in order to end up with a product that you’re proud of, that excites you and that (most importantly) makes you a lot of money.
Q. A single competitor seems to have the market all locked up, do I have a chance?
Yes. This situation can in fact be great news for info product creation. The chances of a single company keeping all the customers in the niche happy is small. There is probably a lot of room for somebody else to do a different style of product and do very well.
Q. I’m not an expert, do I need to be an expert?
No. Basically you have two choices here, each of them excellent ones.
The first is to become an expert yourself. This isn’t as hard as you think. All you need to do is research the subject. If you read 3 books on a subject, you’ll know more than 95% of people. A little more research and you’ll know more than 99% of people. This is more than enough knowledge to be able to give great advice.
The second choice is to hire or borrow expertise from somebody else. Experts love to talk about their subject. You can usually find plenty of experts who will agree to be interviewed in return for a link on your website or product. Many others advertise themselves as willing to write a book for you for just a small fee.
Q. Will creating an information product take a long time and a lot of effort?
Only if you want it to. Information products that deliver fantastic results for your customers can be produced very quickly. Writing it yourself is a lot quicker and easier than you may think. Or get others to produce the whole thing for you in a short amount of time for not much money.
Q. How do I become more interested in my niche?
A lot of people have this problem. They find a niche that has a lot of potential, but that they have no interest in so find it hard to get motivated.
The key here is to connect with your potential customers. Find out how your product can help them get their results. By connecting with the people who buy your product, you’ll not only be more motivated but ultimately deliver a better product and make more money.
